Notes:
- Eye look inspired by the work of @jamesmolloymakeupartist
- I recently learned that the VSCO app on iPhone 6s or higher allows you to shoot in RAW format. This should help prevent some loss since the pictures I’ve been taking save as .jpegs and degrade quite a bit in quality after each edit I make. These are my first shots in VSCO’s RAW setting.
- I’m more confident in my cosmetic skills these days. Just like sketching big prepares you to draw on a smaller scale, making a messy, dramatic eye improves your skill for a toned-down look. Why is that? Does it allow you to see your mistakes more clearly? Looking into this.
- Similarly: periodically doing dramatic shoots makes the smaller, simpler ones easier. Undertaking bigger projects frees me up to make these quick, straightforward style posts when it’s time to show one of my favorite outfits. I’ve broadened my creative world to include other interests so now there’s less pressure on making sure all the standard posts are interesting. At the same time, the larger projects require developing skills that, in turn, will help me make the more standard posts more interesting. I love a paradox.
- I start to worry that my poses are boring until I remember I’m playing stylist, model, and photographer at once. I'm giving myself a break. If my only job were to showcase the clothes then posing expressively would be easier. Maybe. I should try out these roles individually sometime.
- This is my favorite outfit of the moment. I have worn it on at least three separate occasions. The shorts are thrifted and the jacket is Forever 21 denim that I cropped. The proportions reflect everything I look for in an ensemble. The awkward length of the shorts already makes them mature but I take them even more seriously because they’re made of heavy suede and I am a little too small for them. My proverbial big-girl pants!
