Notes on this look
- Seriously, check your closet. Especially if you keep a “capsule” wardrobe, because this look is all basics: black headband, black blazer, black negligee, fishnet tights, and a flashy pair of shoes. I worried that the ease of recreating a look like this would compromise its magic, but none is spared. In fact, it’s empowering to have a trick up my sleeve when the impulse to extrovert comes calling. Imagine taking this idea and trying it with different colors and textures! Maybe that will materialize into a post here on Plush. But in the meantime…
- You can thank this music video for the inspiration:
- This is Katrin Quinol in Black Box’s video for “Everybody Everybody”. What a dream! I know this look isn’t the best example, but the nineties’ take on ’60s style has been on my mind for weeks—and, in retrospect, I think my poses here might even be an imitation of Lady Miss Kier’s body language.
- But I would have done some things differently--namely, the hair and makeup. And, by "differently" I mean "better". Some may call me a cynic, but I believe I’m too optimistic about ever getting my hair to hold volume. As for the makeup, I think practice is all that’s standing in my way. In my defense, it looked better in the mirror than in the flash of the camera—but that’s typical, right?
